The earnings may vary, depending upon how much time and place you
dedicate upon it. There can be actually two types of earning from a
garden, directly and indirectly. In both ways it will help you out in
your regular expenses. And who knows, may be someday you will be a
successful entrepreneur and you will be able to quit your job to pursue
your hobby.
Directly Earning Money
There are plants, you can grow or propagate easily and sell
them afterwards. Actually I will further break this topic in another
two groups, long-term and short-term.

Followings are some of the few tips to help you make money
within a few months from your garden.
- Everyday timber price is growing up throughout the world. Plant some trees in your garden, which can be used for timber. Several years later, you can sale them. Some useful trees for this purpose are; Teak (Tektona Grandis), Mahogany(Swietenia), Sal (Shorea Robusta), Gumar(Gymnema Sylvestris) and Sissoo(Dalbargia Sissoo).
- You can grow some fruit trees and sell the fruits in local market after a few years. Instead of planting several few specimens, try growing a couple of a single specimen. Then you will a have crop of substantial quantity. Also you can plant some palm like coconut or betel nut palm in a row to enhance beauty as well as earn money from them.
- Grow some particular species which are used in landscaping. In India some type of palms, Champagne palm, Bismarkia palm, Areca palm, and Royal palm are used often in a landscape. Also, Cycus Revoluta, Aurocaria cokiee, Thuja oxalis, weeping Deodar has a good market.
Short term money making tips
Followings are some of the few tips to help you make money
in short time from your garden.
- Grow vegetables and herbs in organic way. More and more people getting fond of organic food everyday. They are ready to pay a little bit extra without those harmful chemicals. Do not hesitate; let your friends and neighbors know that you are selling fresh handpicked vegetables and herbs. You will grow a customer-base within a few seasons.
- Some plants can be easily propagated by cuttings. You will only require some rooting hormone and a few square feet for cuttings. Golden Duranta, kamini, Rangon used here extensively for hedge and they are in a constant need. Contact your local nurseries and inform them you have them ready to sell.
- Some shade loving ornamental foliage plants, which can be propagated easily by cuttings, layeiring or division and also used as a houseplant is very easy to sell. Dieffenbachia, Aglaonema, Dracaena, Philodendron and alocasia will be useful for this.
- If you have a lawn and some vacant areas you can earn a good amount from them. Prepare that area for lawn. After mowing instead of throwing away the grass, plant them in that area and when they are ready, sell the full lawn as grass sods.
Indirect Earnings
If you follow these ideas you will be able to save money and
can spend more for other necessities.
- Start your own kitchen garden and grow herb and vegetables. If you keep track of your daily expenses you will notice that you may have save almost 20% of your food expenditure.
- We require flowers everyday, may it be for decoration or worshipping. Grow some annuals, perennials and bulbs. You may never have to visit your florist again.
- Are you changing your garden design? Try buying a few single plants before and propagate them.
Do not get disheartened if your income is very small at
