cacti, ground covers are used in a rockery. Inclusion of water features, barriers, planters, steps will make a rockery much more interesting. To splash color in your rockery, use annuals and for that, the rockery should be in such a place where they can get at least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight. Some dwarf flowering shrubs also a good choice for round the year coloring of your rock-garden. Regular inspection of your rockery is required for the stronger growing species, as they will attempt to swamp the other ones. This can be resisted by regular pruning of the plant. If you include
plants like Dianthus, Phlox etc they have to be on the bottom side from the lime hater plants. Good drainage is an essential for rock garden as most of the plants there is a low water consuming varieties. Rockery
plants need soil which is both water and air permeable. Rockery plants do not thrive in water logged conditions. If you use clay soil as main medium you must mix good amount of compost and course sand with it to make it air and water permeable.
